On April 13, 2022, a meeting was held between the heads of the Patent Office of the Republic of Poland (Urząd Patentowy Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej, UPRP) and the State Enterprise "Ukrainian Intellectual Property Institute" (Ukrpatent). The event was conducted online.
The meeting was attended by President of the Polish Patent Office Edyta Demby-Siwek and Ukrpatent Director General Andrew Kudin. During the event, the participants discussed key issues of cooperation in the field of IP, and humanitarian activities in support of Ukraine, and also determined further steps of cooperation.
At the beginning of the meeting, Andrew Kudin expressed deep gratitude to the staff of the Polish Patent Office and personally to President Demby-Siwek for effective initiatives to provide humanitarian assistance to Ukrainians, as well as for the support of Ukrpatent specialists currently based in Poland. He stressed that the active position of the Polish office has become an important factor of support, which helps Ukrainian colleagues to overcome this difficult period.
Further, the head of Ukrpatent focused on the cooperation between Ukrainian and Polish offices in terms of the IP sphere development, cooperation, and opportunities for joint projects with leading international organizations such as WIPO, EPO, and EUIPO.
In turn, Edyta Demby-Siwek assured that the Polish Patent Office continues to closely monitor the situation in Ukraine, and is ready to continue to provide the necessary assistance, open to proposals and cooperation. The head also informed about the initiatives to support Ukrainian applicants, which are already being implemented in accordance with current legislation, as well as a number of new measures the office is preparing to implement under the guidance of the relevant ministry.
The participants also discussed the preparation for the next joint event, an online conference dedicated to the World IP Day, which will be held jointly by Ukrpatent and the Polish Patent Office on April 26 with the support of WIPO and EUIPO. The parties agreed to further coordinate the actions of the responsible units and, if necessary, hold an additional working meeting.
Summing up the event, the representatives of the Polish Patent Office wished Ukrpatent and all Ukrainian colleagues to bring victory, security and peace to Ukraine as soon as possible.
