In Ukraine, we are also seeing a growing interest in the use of alternative dispute resolution as a fast, reliable and affordable way to protect IP rights.
This was emphasized by Vladyslav Bilotskyi, Deputy Director of the Ukrainian IP Office, while delivering a statement on the agenda item “WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center, including Domain Names,” within the 65th series of meetings of the Assemblies of the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), which is attended by the Ukrainian delegation and more than 1400 delegates from all over the world.
“In response to this interest, we continue to develop the IP Mediation Centre at the Ukrainian IP Office under the umbrella of the WIPO-Ukraine Memorandum of Understanding on Alternative Dispute Resolution, using best practices and guidelines developed by WIPO”, - noted he.
Vladyslav Bilotskyi emphasized the importance of the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center and the positive impact of its activities on the global intellectual community as well as on national economies. In his opinion, the activities of the Center serve as an example of high-quality services for the protection of intellectual property rights, as well as a center of competence and cooperation.
“Further cooperation with WIPO and active implementation of the best international practices have the potential to significantly strengthen Ukraine's position in the field of intellectual property rights protection at the international level, which in turn will contribute to the country's economic development”, - added Vladyslav Bilotskyi.
He informed the international community that the Ukrainian IP Mediation Center provides IP mediation services, which include the organization of mediation training events and technical support for IP mediation services. A separate area of the Centre's activity is educational activities aimed at uniting the professional community and consolidating the efforts of partners to develop mediation in the IP field.
“We would like to emphasize the importance of WIPO’s assistance with an aim of developing effective and tailored national laws and enforcement practices and express our further interest in close cooperation with WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center”, - summarized the Deputy Director of the IP Office.
It is worth reminding that Ukraine is represented at the 65th series of meetings of the Assemblies of the member states of WIPO by: the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine, the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva and representatives of the Ukrainian National Office for Intellectual Property and Innovations (IP Office).
